It used to be that Hiraku, in Orangeburg, was the country’s big sushi-secret---- although, of course, given Chef Masao “Umi” Umezaki’s talents, the place didn’t stay under wraps for long. Now Umi has opened a new restaurant, right in the heart of Nyack, audaciously setting up shop down the street from another sushi hot-spot, Wasabi. And after tasting Umi’s sublime sushi, you’ll see it’s a worthy adversary. Be sure to try the tuna salmon, or yellowtail- any will melt on your tongue.

Not in the mood for raw fish? You’ll love the crispy, meat-filled gyoza-paper-thin slices of eggplant, glazed with honey, sake, mirin, and miso – or Umi’s tuna-steak special, which is a must-try.
